How To Make Book Covers for Decorating for Autumn

Now that we have our supplies, let’s get started on the project. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make book covers for decorating for autumn:

Step 1: Remove Book Jackets from Books

Remove the book jackets from the books you’ll be using for this project. Paint over the titles on the bindings with white paint using a small paint brush. This will ensure that the color of the titles doesn’t show through the white paper strips you’ll cut out from the printer paper. Let the paint dry completely.

Step 2: Cut Out the Autumn Quote

Using a paper cutter, follow the marked lines on each side of the printable to cut the Autumn quote into strips. Make sure to cut the strips carefully and evenly.

Step 3: Center the Strips on the Books

Center one strip on each book to figure out how much excess paper you need to cut off of each end so each strip is just long enough to be wrapped around the end of the bindings.

Step 4: Trim the Strips

Trim the strips to the length needed. Make sure to leave enough excess paper to wrap around the end of the bindings.

Step 5: Attach the Strips to the Books

Using a repositionable glue stick, attach the strips to the books so that you can easily change the quote with the seasons. Make sure to glue all the edges of the strips as well as the center. Push the ends of the paper strips inside the bindings on the books and then smooth each paper strip with your fingers to make sure each is adhered.

Step 6: Stack the Books

Once each book has the paper strips adhered, stack them and you’re done! I placed mine in my foyer, and it looks amazing.

Tips and Variations:

  • You can use different colors of books and paper to create a unique and personalized look.
  • You can also print out your favorite quotes and sayings to use in the project.
  • Consider using a tray or a container to hold the stack of books, like I did.
  • If you can’t find enough books in the color you want, use craft paint to change the color of any book.
